Move-Out Cleaning Checklist for Richmond Homes

By Simple House Cleaning Service Richmond · Published

Book a move-out clean after the furniture and boxes are gone, with water and power still on and easy access to the home. Simple House Cleaning Service Richmond's empty-home clean covers every deep-clean task plus the inside of cabinets, drawers, the fridge and the oven. Cleaning cannot promise a deposit back or fix damage.

Get the order right: movers, then cleaning, then walk-through

If the cleaners arrive while the last of the furniture is still inside, the floors, closets and baseboards are hard to reach. Schedule the clean after the movers and any repair work are finished, with enough time left before the key handoff to look the home over. If a contractor has to come back afterward, plan for the dust and footprints they leave.

Leave the water and electricity on through the visit. Share entry instructions and mention any alarm, gate or parking rules. If you are moving in rather than out, try to get the clean done before your own furniture is delivered.

Kitchen: clear out anything you want cleaned inside

Our move-out clean includes the inside of the refrigerator, freezer, oven, microwave, cabinets and drawers. Take out food and belongings first. Let us know ahead of time about heavy grease, a broken appliance or a frozen-over freezer, since cleaners do not repair or take apart appliances.

Counters, sinks, cabinet fronts, the stovetop and floors are all part of the kitchen reset. If your landlord gave you a move-out checklist, send it over before the visit so we can compare it with ours.

  • Empty all cabinets, drawers and pantry shelves.
  • Clear the fridge and freezer of food and loose items.
  • Haul away trash and unwanted items before the visit.
  • Point out natural stone, unusual finishes or broken fixtures.

Bathrooms, bedrooms and closets

In the bathrooms we clean toilets, sinks, mirrors, tubs and showers, fixtures, baseboards, switches and floors. Closets need empty shelves and clear floors so we can get to everything. The checklist covers reachable surfaces; it will not make scuffed paint or worn floors look new.

After the clean, take your own photos before anyone else walks through. Check the work against the agreed checklist and let us know right away if something on it was missed. Keep cleaning questions and damage questions separate so both are easy to sort out.

Know which jobs belong to someone else

Carpet shampooing, painting, repairs and hauling are separate services. A garage sweep can be added for a flat amount, and interior windows and blinds can be added too, but neither comes automatically. Ask about these up front instead of assuming a move-out clean covers every item on a landlord's list.

Your landlord makes the call on your deposit, not the cleaning company. Our job is to clean the home to the agreed checklist so it is ready for inspection. Call or text (281) 978-3742 with your home size, its condition and your move date for a free move-out quote.
